High Line Park in New York is a long park on an elevated train track in the middle of Manhattan. The park runs from Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards and annually attracts millions of visitors. During a walk through the park you have a great view of Manhattan and the Hudson River and is a pleasant change with the hustle and bustle of the streets in Manhattan..
High Line train tracks
The park is located on a 2.3 kilometer long elevated train track that was built in the thirties of the last century. Since 1934, the train tracks, running parallel to 10th avenue, have been used for the transport of, among other things, meat and poultry on the west side of Manhattan. Because more and more road transport came, the train tracks became redundant and in 1980 the last train was driven.
In 2003 it was estimated that High Line park would cost $ 150 million. An amount that the city did not have. But because house prices in the area are expected to rise, which also brings more tax into cash, it has been decided to build the park.
In 2006 the construction of part one of three began and in June 2009 the first part was opened. On 8 June 2011, part two was opened. Work on the last part of the park has also been completed. In September 2014, this part was also opened to the public.
