The Empire State Building is one of the most famous buildings in New York and not without reason: from the 86th floor you have a great view of the city. If it is your first time in New York, this should definitely be on your to-do-list!
When you buy tickets, you can choose from standard tickets or express tickets. You can also purchase a discount card (see below) for free entry. If you want to visit the 102nd floor, you can upgrade the tickets on the spot. Please note that the observation deck on the 102nd floor will be closed for renovations until 29 July
When is the best time to go to the Empire State Building?
The Empire State Building is open 365 days a year, regardless of the weather. It is open from eight o’clock in the morning until two o’clock at night, but the last elevator goes up at 1.15 o’clock. It is wise to check the view in advance. If it is a less clear day, wait until the visibility has improved. If you want to avoid the worst crowds, go before 10 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
What better to visit than the Empire State Building? Visit the Empire State Building twice! Visit the observation deck on the 86th floor between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. and return the same day between 9 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. with the advantageous day and evening tickets. This gives you the opportunity to admire the view in daylight and in the evening, with all the sparkling lights of the city.
! Do you have a New York CityPASS? Then both visits are included in the pass
When I buy tickets online, can I come whenever I want?
Yes. If you buy tickets online, you can enter the building whenever you want. You must specify a date when ordering, but you will see that the date does not matter when redeeming the voucher. So you do not have to swap them for one with a different date; you just hand it in like that.
You also have the option to purchase an Express Pass. That will cost you a bit more, but you will be given priority in both the row for the tickets and the row for the security. Personally, I would only choose if I do not have that much time and want quick and easy access to the Empire State Building.
Are there opportunities to get a discount on the entrance fee?
Yes! If you buy a New York Pass, an Explorer Pass or a New York CityPASS, you get free access to the Empire State Building. In this case, you do not have to take any data into account or reserve. The discount card must be valid, of course.

The Empire State Building is very good at night – better than Top of the Rock, since Central Park is not lit up. If you have a New York CityPASS or the exclusive day and evening tickets, you can visit the Empire State Building during the day and return in the evening. A possibility that you do not have with a single ticket! If it is your first visit, it is nice to do the audio tour. You get it for free.

Unique: VIP Sunrise Experience
A unique experience at the Empire State Building: visit the building to see the sunrise before it opens its doors to the general public. In the early morning, take the elevator up to the observation deck on the 86th floor and see the sun rise over New York. This special experience is only reserved for 100 people per day, on selected dates. Book well in time!
What is the significance of the illumination of the Empire State Building?
The Empire State Building has LED floodlights that can illuminate the building in up to twelve million different color combinations! The color of the tower is adjusted on special occasions and holidays. On a normal day you will see the Empire State Building white lit. On Independence Day the tower is colored red, white and blue. Because of these changes, every time you see the building is a unique experience.
When you come to New York for the first time, the Empire State Building is really a Must See. If you want to visit several attractions, purchase a discount card. That saves not only money, but also time! And if you happen to have the plan to make a marriage proposal on the Empire State Building, then preferably choose a Thursday, Friday or Saturday; then there is a saxophone player from 22.00 onwards.
